The festival of spring is celebrated all over Peru, with especially colorful variants in the jungle. However Trujillo, capital of the department of La Libertad, has forged a particular reputation for holding the festival of greatest splendor. The festival is intimately linked to the marinera norteña, which is always danced by a couple, waving a handkerchief in the air to keep time.
