Day 01, Sunday
2:00 p.m. – Depart up river from Iquitos . Briefing on board by cruise director.
5:00 p.m. – Shore excursion to visit a small river town on the Amazon.
7:30 p.m. – Dinner on board. Continue up river at night. Pass the juncture of the Ucayali and Marañon rivers – this is the beginning of the Amazon River.
Day 02, Monday
5:30 a.m. – Early morning bird watching on the upper deck. Coffee and tea available.
7:30 a.m. – Full breakfast on board. Visit the first areas of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Sail into the beautiful black-water Lake San Martin and visit a local community of natives and trade for handicrafts. In small boats continue further into the reserve. Now see a multitude of birds and Amazon wildlife in this quiet, protected area.
6:00 p.m. – Sail on up river overnight. Star gazing from the upper deck.
Day 03, Tuesday
6:00 a.m. – Again an early morning bird watching excursion.
7:30 a.m. – Breakfast on board.
9:00 a.m. - Excursion by small boat into the protected reserve for observation of wildlife.
12:30 p.m. – Lunch on board as you continue up river.
4:00 p.m. – Afternoon excursion to explore in the jungle on foot with your guide.
7:30 p.m. – Dinner on board.
9:00 p.m. – Night excursion to hear the many sounds of the Amazon rain forest.
Day 04, Wednesday
Now turning off the Marañon River and entering the smaller, swifter Huallaga River
7:30 a.m. – Breakfast on board.
8:30 a.m. – Shore excursion and again into the forest of this huge protected area. Your guide will point out and explain about the unique and interesting plants, trees and vines
12:30 p.m. – Lunch on board. Now the river is more narrow and shallow.
4:00 p.m. – Afternoon excursion to a small lake to observe the many varieties of birds and look for monkeys and sloths.
8:00 p.m. – Last night on board. Local music.
Day 05, Thursday
Early morning arrival at the Amazon river port of Yurimaguas . This area is connected by road to the Andean area of Peru , the coast and the rest of the country. Passengers may stay and visit this remote port then go by car for a 3 to 4 hour trip to Tarapoto, located in a cooler Andean valley.
